It’s a complex of "Domus de Janas", which has got the greatest amount of tombs in Sardinia. The Necropolis is placed in a natural environment particularly adapt to prehistoric men’s settlement; therefore the area preserves many traces of human presence in the prehistoric age. This people used to practise fishing and agriculture. The Necropolis is one of the most important archaeological areas in the Mediterranean, dated back to 3000 BD. It is noticeable that in the architectonic style an improvement has taken place 

during all the different stages of the use of the structure; and this is confirmed by the different characteristics of each tomb. It regards especially the type of entrance, that is "a cataloia" entrance, the oldest one, or "a dromos" entrance, the most recent one, whereas the inside vary from rectilinear to curvilinear chambers. All these characteristics make the site a very interesting touristic place not to miss for those visiting Alghero and its surroundings. The Necropolis is located in an area called "Li Piani", about 10 kilometres from Alghero. You can reach it from Alghero or from Sassari taking the new main road for Alghero up to the road-sign which shows the road fork to get to the archaeological site.
