Baratz Lake

Baratz lake is the only example of natural fresh-water lake existing in Sardinia. Its origin is due to the barrage of a deep inlet caused by a huge offshore of dunes. Nowadays this lake boasts a surface of 60 hectares. It has got fresh waters because of the position of 30 metres high above sea level and because of its capacity of over 2 millions cubic metres of water.

Beside the importance for its uniquity, the lake is also a real natural treasure for flora and fauna. The lake is surrounded by a large pine forest rich in flora of the Mediterranean area. It is not rare to find different species of fauna such as the turtle of fresh waters or the "Germano Reale", a wild duck. Certainly it’s a great ouristic site that is worthy of a visit.
