Saint Mary's Cathedral

Saint Mary's Cathedral was built and completed at different times. The original structure, in a Gothic-Catalan style of architecture, dates back to XVI century. Nowadays visible traces of its large presbytery and of the octagonal plan bell tower can be found. It was consecrated first in 1593 AD and later consecrated again in 1730 AD after long and never-ending restoration works.

The main facade is a neo-classical and dates back to the second half of the IX century. It consists of a nave and two aisles placed next to some chapels, which are made with high pillars and sandstone Doric columns. The inside of the cathedral is very interesting and distinctive especially for its religious ornaments typical of the XVIII century, and for the wide range of marbles with different colours.
